Appetising Savings for the Umbrian Griffin

The Client

The Grifo Group is an important production and processing company in the agri-food sector in central Italy. Based in Ponte San Giovanni, Perugia, the company produces wholesome foods, guaranteeing maximum transparency in all supply chain processes, both regarding the origin of the products and the processing methods, which ensure the highest attention to quality and environmental care.

With a turnover exceeding EUR 50 million and almost 200 employees, the Grifo Group aims at setting a benchmark in the market, taking on a leading role to preserve the origins, the traditions and the ancient flavours of a still generous land, in order to meet consumers’ expectations.

The most typical agricultural products of the Apennine are its core business. With its six processing divisions, the Group owns six brands: firstly, Grifo Latte milk and milk products; Colfiorito stretched-curd products; Norcia dairy products; Legumi dell’Umbria legumes; Cantina dei Colli Amerini wines, and Corradi Umbria & Sapori gastronomy.

 

The Project

Well aware of the importance of cost control within a rapidly expanding Group, President Carlo Catanossi accepted Expense Reduction Analysts’ proposal to assess the potential savings on indirect expenses. “We chose Expense Reduction Analysts because of their professionalism, the competence shown from the very beginning and the convincing business model”, said Mr. Catanossi.

Following a thorough analysis, focused on the classic general costs categories as well as on highly strategic costs, like transports, packaging, and special waste management, ERA Partner and Client Manager Alfredo Longo and other expert colleagues submitted a detailed study of the current situation, which indicated interesting opportunities for improvement.

 

The results

At the end of the optimisation project, which addressed the above-mentioned categories, important results were achieved, not only in terms of realized savings, often with the incumbent supplier, but also in the optimisation of processes and solutions. “In some cases, the client preferred to maintain the same long-term suppliers, so our experts focused on identifying implementation alternatives which, besides leading to savings in supplies, also generated innovative and more effective solutions in Grifo, as was the case with the products to clean facilities”, said Client Manger Alfredo Longo.
