The Alte Oper Konzert und Kongresszentrum GmbH Frankfurt (Old Opera House) welcomes over 450,000 visitors to around 400 events a year. In addition to concerts of classical music, events for children, the youth and parents are also scheduled on a regular basis. The historical facade of the former Frankfurt Opera House conceals a lively concert hall and congress centre, very adaptable but showing a clear artistic vocation. Like for other concert and congress halls, energy and waste disposal costs are big issues.
Rolf Schmidt, CPO at the Alte Oper, commissioned Volker Worringer of Expense Reduction Analysts to investigate and optimise these categories. Worringer called upon experts Peter Dächert (energy) and Volker Klinkosch (waste) to join the team.
The Alte Oper in Frankfurt had yearly expenditure for energy reaching almost 800,000 Euros. In order to identify the best option for the Alte Oper, the Expense Reduction Analysts consultants negotiated an individual contract with local electricity providers. Additionally, an analysis was made to see if tax and fees exemptions could be achieved. Then the option of using an emergency generator was considered. However none of these options were followed. Energy costs, only through negotiations, were reduced by almost 6%, i.e. annual savings of 45,000 Euros. The newly renegotiated terms were among the municipal conditions.
Expense Reduction Analysts is additionally investigating the possibility of equipping the great hall of the Alte Oper with LED lights to further reduce power consumption as well as electricity costs.
In the area of waste management, Expense Reduction Analysts found that the Alte Oper was already working with optimal conditions.
“Expense Reduction Analysts has found a solution for us that was both individual and customised. We are very satisfied with the results”.
