Industry sector: Distribution of electrical products and services
Cost categories: Marketing printed materials, fleet management, energy, office supplies, packaging, cleaning
Rexel is world leader in the distribution of electrical products and services for the energy world. The company aims to offer customers worldwide innovative and sustainable solutions to improve the comfort, security and energy performance of installations, infrastructure and buildings. With 35 branches in Belgium as well as a logistics centre, over 600 staff and a turnover of over 300 million Euros, the company was eager to find savings.
The contact was primarily made with the CFO, though the project was then followed by the CEO alongside the Expense Reduction Analysts team. ERA started the project over 2 years ago with a few cost categories and more were added little by little to include: cleaning, fleet management, office supplies packaging, marketing prints, telecommunications, energy, facility management and courier.
After analysis, the conclusion was made that the cleaning category was well managed and prices obtained were already low. Savings were achieved in other categories, not only by negotiating lower prices with suppliers, but also by improving processes and finding the most accurate products and services for the company. For instance, in the area of packaging, which involved 4 sub-categories, savings of 30% were found in the purchasing of boxes by choosing a different size and by recovering and recycling the boxes delivered to the branches.
Though the cost management project is currently still ongoing for fleet management, the savings achieved have already reached over 500,000 Euros annually.
