About the project:
Columbian Carbon Spain is the only producer of carbon black in Spain; carbon black is the black pigment by excellence, essential in cosmetics, paints or plastics and Columbian Carbon produces 80,000 tons annually.
The company joined the multinational Indian Group Aditya Birla (annual turnover of 40 million dollars) and reinvested half of its profits in improvements designed to increase the production capacity to compete on Asian markets.
The Columbian Carbon project was complex due to the specific characteristics of carbon black. The low density product stained a lot, which had an impact on both transport and storage, the two categories that were being investigated for cost optimisation. The solution for transport was specific vans with one supplier in Spain to deliver the product to 75-80% of the clientele, and international suppliers to meet demand abroad. As for the storage, the installation of machinery has helped with handling bulk carbon black.
