On February 9th, CFO Magazine organised again a very successful edition of its annual 'Best Finance Team of the Year' (BFT) awards. The event was organised for the fifteenth year running and has been an industry-wide respected value for many years. As one of the events’ sponsors, Expense Reduction Analysts (ERA) invited clients and other members of its network to witness the final round of this challenging competition for finance professionals.
The BFT awards are the ultimate recognition and culmination for the role of finance in good governance and entrepreneurship. The choice for rewarding a whole team instead of the CFO only, stresses the importance of teamwork that is needed for excellent financial performance. “ERA endorses this vision and therefore we are proud to be part of this industry-wide event”, says Johan Van Delm, Managing Partner at ERA. “In the aftermath of the financial crisis, finance teams are still working under a lot of pressure. Teams that find ways to increase effectiveness and efficiency are able to enhance growth which is crucial in a fast changing world.”
The prizes have been awarded in different categories such as ‘large enterprises’ and ‘small and medium enterprises or not-for profit organisations’. This year a 22-member team of experts lead by Tom Bamelis, CFO at Ackermans & Van Haaren chose recycling firm Metallo as winner in the ‘large enterprise’ category. Hospital ‘Onze Lieve Vrouwziekenhuis Aalst-Asse-Ninove’ won the prize as best industry-wide not for profit player.
“The jury’s expertise was quite impressive and the reports were very thorough”, adds Van Delm. “These organisations are true role models for the Belgian finance industry. With their enthusiasm and professionalism they encourage others to play an active and meaningful role within the Belgian financial industry. This mindset is crucial when taking into account the worldwide challenges that lie ahead of all of us.”
