RaymakersvdBruggen is a company that operates in the Netherlands and is dedicated entirely to Human Resources. Their specialists offer recruitment, secondment and interim management, as well as consultancy and development solutions. Working with people where contacts are key, their business activities involve much telephone work and driving.
Previously, Expense Reduction Analysts consultant Maarten van Overeem carried out a telecom project for RvdB, which went very smoothly and provided an excellent 35% saving. After discussing cost-saving methods for small vehicle fleets with his colleague Henk Postmus, he decided to contact the Director of RvdB Michiel van Asbeck.
Expense Reduction Analysts uses a standard approach for standard categories, which is also applied to the Vehicle Fleet category. However, this approach is not suitable for ‘smaller’ vehicle fleets that have less than two hundred cars. Carrying out a complete tender process for such fleets is not worthwhile for either party. This is why Postmus developed a different but effective approach, concluding framework agreements with a number of lease companies based on bundled vehicle fleets for various customers. This then enabled him to continue offering savings to each of his customers. RvdB has a vehicle fleet of 33 cars, which is very important to the company due to the nature of their work.
Van Overeem made his first proposal to Van Asbeck over cup of coffee, and two days later a business meeting took place at the RvdB office in Weesp between Van Asbeck and Expense Reduction Analysts consultants Postmus and Van Overeem. “We had already established a relationship of trust, so things went very smoothly,” explains Van Overeem. During the discussion, Van Asbeck explained his company policy with regard to lease vehicles: the extent of the choice of brands for staff, the mileage allowed for private use, etc. This was all that project analyst Postmus needed to make a start.
Three weeks after the first meeting, Postmus produced an overview of recommendations. It seemed possible to achieve a saving of 17% in lease costs and 6% in insurance costs when this component was arranged elsewhere in a separate agreement. Van Overeem: “Van Asbeck went a little quiet when he heard this.” It meant that RvdB would be saving 55,000 euros per year with the same lease terms and conditions. Van Asbeck: “I should have let an expert take a look at this years ago; it would have saved me a lot of money. I had no idea.”
Based on thorough research and years of experience, Henk Postmus made a number of other recommendations that could offer even more savings: with regard to the temporary lease cars used by staff awaiting the delivery of their new lease vehicles, for example. The company used to rent cars to cover their needs, but Expense Reduction Analysts offers a short lease solution that is substantially cheaper. It is also often possible to make considerable savings in fuel costs without changing the staff’s driving styles. Furthermore, Expense Reduction Analysts is able to take over the entire vehicle fleet management of companies. After all, it has ample experience in converting an analysis of the figures in a lease report into tangible measures that provide good results. This is, of course, always based on the requirements of the company in terms of its vehicle fleet and desired staff benefits.
All in all, RvdB was able to benefit from substantial savings within a month of that first telephone call, to the delight of all parties involved.
"I should have looked into this many years ago; it would have saved me a lot of money. I had no idea."
